Professional profile

The specialist

Dr. Gaetano Calesini is a specialist in prosthetic dentistry and implantology practicing in Rome’s historic centre at Via della Croce 77, near Piazza di Spagna. He is Director of the Master in Prosthetic Dentistry at Università Campus Bio-Medico di Roma, a member of the Advisory Board of the Faculty of Dentistry at UCBM, and President of ASSO (Associazione Società Scientifiche Odontoiatriche) for the 2026-2027 mandate. His practice accepts complex and extensive cases only: full mouth rehabilitation, implant complications, prosthetic reconstruction, and structured second-opinion consultations. Consultations are available in Italian and English.

Dr. Calesini has been in private practice in Rome since 1979. Over more than forty-five years, he has developed particular expertise in the management of complex implant and prosthetic cases, with a focus on retreatments: cases where a previous treatment pathway has not produced the expected results. He has developed original techniques and filed patents in the field of implant-prosthetic dentistry, some of which are currently used in international clinical practice.

His formation as a dental technician, acquired before his medical degree, is a distinctive clinical asset: it allows direct control over the entire prosthetic production chain, from digital design to the verification of the definitive device before cementation.

The practice: selective and complex cases only

Studio Calesini is not a general dental practice. It accepts complex and extensive cases: patients who present with failing or failed implants, patients requiring full mouth rehabilitation after years of accumulated dental work, patients seeking a structured second opinion before committing to major treatment, and patients with high aesthetic and functional demands who require a fully integrated clinical approach.

This selectivity is a clinical choice, not a commercial one. A practice that accepts all case types cannot maintain the specialisation, the team structure, and the diagnostic rigour that complex cases require.

Clinical areas

Complex implantology

Immediate post-extraction implants, guided bone regeneration via Morphogenic Tissue Management (MTM), maxillary sinus lift, full-arch rehabilitations, and management of cases with reduced bone volume, adverse anatomies, or adverse systemic conditions.

Implant-prosthetic retreatments

Systematic causal analysis of implant failure. Management of peri-implantitis, biomechanical overload, prosthetic misfit, and complex bone loss. Removal and replacement protocols where indicated.

Full mouth reconstruction

Coordinated protocols addressing teeth, implants, bone, gum tissue, and occlusion as an integrated system. For patients where partial solutions are no longer sufficient.

Structured second opinions

Independent clinical assessments for patients who have received a complex treatment proposal and want a rigorous, written evaluation before committing. Consultations in Italian, English, and any language via AI-assisted communication.

How an appointment works

The first consultation at Studio Calesini is a structured process in two phases. The first phase gathers all clinical data: complete history, examination, photographic documentation, and radiographic assessment. Between the two appointments, the specialist team reviews the findings in a multidisciplinary clinical session. The second phase presents the diagnostic conclusions, the therapeutic options, and the prognosis in a written document.

No treatment is started at the first consultation. The patient makes their decision with full information.

International patients and language

Studio Calesini regularly receives patients from abroad: expatriates living in Rome, international patients travelling for specialist treatment, and patients whose previous dental work was performed in another country and who require continuity of care or an independent assessment.

Dr. Calesini conducts consultations in Italian and English. For patients whose first language is neither, direct communication in any language is available through AI-assisted support: every patient receives complete clinical information in their own language. The practice provides written clinical summaries and radiographic documentation to support cross-border continuity of care.
